Once the browser extension is in Chrome, you can add the page you’re reading, a video on it, or a live capture to your Library from a side panel.

Get the extension

  1. In the desktop app, choose your name at the bottom of the sidebar.
  2. Choose Get Chrome extension. The Chrome Web Store listing for Bettership for Google Chrome™ opens in your browser.
  3. On the listing, choose Add to Chrome.
  4. If Chrome says “Proceed with caution”, choose Continue to install.
  5. When Chrome asks whether to add the extension, choose Add extension. The Bettership icon appears in Chrome’s toolbar, to the right of the address bar.
In the desktop app’s Settings, Add to Chrome on the Downloads page opens the same listing.

Open the panel and sign in

  1. Open the page you want to save.
  2. Choose the Bettership icon in Chrome’s toolbar. The side panel opens beside the page.
  3. The first time, the panel shows “Before you begin”, a note on what it reads. Choose Agree and continue.
  4. Sign in with the account you use in the desktop app: choose Continue with Google or Continue with Apple, or enter your email and choose Send code.
  5. If you asked for a code, enter the code from the email and choose Sign in.
Once you’re signed in, the panel has three tabs: This page, Pick from page, and Live capture. It follows whichever page is in front in Chrome.

Add the page you’re reading

  1. Choose This page. The panel shows the page’s address and its title.
  2. If you want a different title, edit it in the panel’s title field.
  3. Choose Add resource. A row for it appears at the bottom of the panel.

Add a video from the page

  1. Choose Pick from page. The panel selects a video or audio player it found on the page.
  2. Choose Add resource. A row for it appears at the bottom of the panel.

Capture what’s playing

Use this for anything the other two tabs can’t add. It needs the desktop app open and signed in to the same account.
  1. Choose Live capture.
  2. Choose Start capture. The desktop app starts a capture of this browser window, and the panel shows the time running and Finish capture.
  3. Choose Finish capture when it’s over. The panel shows “Preparing your capture” while the desktop app saves it. Keep the desktop app open until it’s saved.

Check it worked

Each row at the bottom of the panel has a line saying how far along that item is, such as “Saved with the article, processing” or “Saved, transcript on the way.” Next: Read a resource
