# How practice works

> Move between understanding, trying, and using an idea.

An idea can make sense when you read it and still be hard to use. Bettership gives you places to understand it, try it, and carry it into something that matters.

## Learn

Bring in material, explore what's in it, and connect it to what you already know. Scout helps with the resources. Coach can help you question an idea, explain it, or make sense of competing views.

## Practice

Try a particular part before you need it under real conditions. A **rep** is an actual practice attempt, such as explaining a concept, responding to a scenario, or rehearsing a conversation.

Coach helps prepare the exercise and gives feedback. A **practice plan** organizes useful practice around your direction. A **playbook** holds recurring practice drawn from a Focus Area, collection, or resource.

The point is a more capable next attempt. Completing an exercise isn't a declaration of mastery.

## Apply

Use what you're learning for a real purpose. You might adapt an approach to a decision, prepare for a conversation, or ask Maker to create a reusable prompt, context pack, or skill for another AI tool.

You decide what fits the situation and what to do with the result.

## Move in the order that helps

You can start anywhere. A difficult attempt may send you back to a resource. Making something may reveal what you don't yet understand. You may only need a conversation today.

Capture feeds this loop by preserving something you're watching, hearing, or attending. It isn't a required first step.

If you want to debrief a real attempt, bring what happened to Coach. Bettership doesn't require a reflection before you can continue.
