# Install and sign in

> Download the desktop app from bettership.ai, install it, sign in, and check capture permissions.

When you're done, the Bettership desktop app is installed, you're signed in, and you know where to check its capture permissions.

## Install the desktop app

Download the desktop app from [bettership.ai/download](https://www.bettership.ai/download). Then:

1. Open the Bettership .dmg file in your Downloads folder. A window called "Install Bettership" opens.
2. Drag the Bettership icon into your Applications folder.
3. Open the Bettership app from your Applications folder. It opens on "Welcome to Bettership."

## Sign in

The same steps sign you in or, with a new email, create your account. You can also choose **Continue with Google** or **Continue with Apple** on the same screen.

1. Enter your email in **Email**.
2. Choose **Send code**. "Check your email" opens.
3. Enter the eight-digit code from the email in **Confirmation code**. You're signed in as soon as the last digit goes in.
4. If the email is new, "Set up your account" opens. Enter your name in **Your full name**.
5. Select **I agree to Bettership's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.**
6. Choose **Finish setting up**. A short welcome from the Bettership agents opens.
7. Choose **Skip** if you'd rather go straight to Home.

## Check capture permissions

Live capture needs macOS access to your microphone and to Screen Recording.

1. Choose **Settings**, the gear beside your name at the bottom of the sidebar. Settings opens.
2. Choose **App preferences**.
3. Find **System permissions**, near the bottom of the page. The **Microphone** and **Screen Recording** rows each say "Allowed" or "Not allowed."
4. Choose **Open System Settings** beside a row that says "Not allowed." macOS System Settings opens on that permission's list, where Bettership has its own switch.
5. Come back to Bettership. The row shows the new setting.

## Check it worked

Home opens with a greeting and **Getting started** in the sidebar.
